What a wonderful way to start the day! Bill and I hit the Thomas Creek trail in South Reno recently. It was chilly so there were very few other adventurous souls out with us. The trail was calm, quiet and beautiful except for the glorious sound of rushing water in the Thomas Creek. After 4 long years of drought, it was music to our ears!
Thomas Creek Trail is a perfect first hike if you are new to the area or, like me, just haven’t
hiked for awhile! It is located just a stone’s throw away from downtown Reno. Head up Mt. Rose and turn right on Timberline. You will pass White Creek’s Trail along the way. (That will be for another day.) Timberline dead-ends at a parking lot at the trailhead for Thomas Creek Trail. We headed out from there and within 5 minutes of walking, were surrounded by nature. The creek is flowing! It is amazing to see the amount of water after so long. With so much water this year, everything is green, green, green! We even saw a snow flower along the way.
I have to say this was a great start to a new season, a season that is going to include many more of these wonderful starts to the day. Here’s to one more check mark on my list of to-do’s in Reno. I am glad to say that this will not be the last.
Enjoy the day and get outside!
