The final days of 2019 are here and we are all excited to welcome a new decade! If you are lucky enough to spend New Year’s Eve in a true winter wonderland like Lake Tahoe, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy! You can enjoy fun in the snow during the day and celebrate in style after dark. Many ski resorts in the Tahoe Basin are starting the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the early afternoon with live music, games for kids, a ski parade on the slopes, and toasting to a new year with a spectacular fireworks show.
Here is a list of events you shouldn’t miss this New Year’s Eve at Lake Tahoe!
You can celebrate the end of the year with a guided snowshoe tour on Tahoe Donner’s cross country ski trails and watch the fireworks launched from the Downhill Ski Resort. Stay warm, get yourself a headlamp and have fun with the whole family. The tour starts at 5:30 at the Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Center.
If you are planning on skiing at the West Shore, Homewood Ski Resort will be serving complimentary Champagne and toast to the last run of 2019 at 3PM at the Big Blue View Bar.
The largest ski resort in Tahoe will definitely be a place to bring the whole family! Enjoy great skiing and activities for kids during the day, live music in the Village, world’s largest torchlight parade and fireworks! After the sun goes down and ski day is over, bring the family to SnoVentures at the bottom of Squaw from 5-8PM for a Disco tubing! The tubing park is especially festive this New Year’s Eve with a DJ and LED lights. An anticipated 3,000 skiers will take part in the world’s largest torch parade starting 5:15PM. They will start at the Gold Coast and head to the bottom of the mountain. Squaw Valley prepared a fireworks show at the K2 deck at 7PM, followed by the celebration in the Olympic house until 1AM!
This ski resort in South Lake Tahoe has prepared an exciting program from 2PM till 9:30 PM. Enjoy live music including DJ’s, Las Vegas’s top party band The Garage Boys, or Country Star Jerrod Niemann on the Main Stage. Just in time for the midnight Ball Drop in New York City’s Time Square, Heavenly’s Gondola Ball Drop will cross above the crowd with a live aerial drone show, a fabulous fireworks show will light up the night after that. The party will continue at one of the many casino nightclubs.
This popular Truckee ski resort will ring in 2020 hosting live music all afternoon, with evening headliner Hip Service starting at 7PM and a spectacular fireworks show at 9PM. You can enjoy skiing, tubing, snowshoeing or the Village Ice rink during the day.
Edgewood Tahoe presents the most glamorous experience this year right by the lake with the NYE Black & White Ball. You can enjoy fine dining with a 5 course menu with paired wines, complimentary champagne, live music and a dance floor. The venue will also offer custom rolled cigars in a whiskey lounge, a photo booth, and private midnight fireworks. Black tie attire is required.
This annual event organized by MTV is happening the last 3 days of the year at Lake Tahoe Community College and it will be colorful, loud and fun! You can enjoy concerts all day with a great line-up of electronic and dance music and fireworks at the end. This largest cruising vessel in South Lake Tahoe, M.S. Dixie II, has a capacity of 500 passengers and all cruises depart from Zephyr Cove Resort & Marina. The City of Reno
Enjoy all day skiing or snowboarding at Mt. Rose, that is just 30 minutes drive from the city. The Après Ski will start at The Main Lodge at 3PM with a DJ and raffle for all the season pass holders. Don’t miss a unique Snowcat parade, followed by a human ski torchlight parade, and catch the fireworks at 5:50 PM. You will still have enough time to head back to Reno to see the midnight show!
Reno offers numerous New Year’s Eve events with many local spots hosting their own themed events. The midnight fireworks are a must see show lasting 13-minutes, which is supposed to be bigger than the ones in Las Vegas. The best views are from Virginia Street, right by the Reno Arch. The fireworks will be synchronized to the best hits of 2019. Make sure you plan ahead, the road will be pedestrians only, and will be closed to traffic after 9PM.
Holidays, overall, tend to get really busy, so plan ahead and give yourself enough time to travel and most of all, play it safe. Tahoe Truckee Regional Transit offer free shuttle service at the North Shore until 2AM. RTC in Reno offers free public transit from 6pm New Years Eve to 2am on New Years Day.
